| 8.5.2005: Michael and
Dede: New Parents! |
Congratulations to Michael and
Dede Barry, who are celebrating the birth of their
first
child, Liam, born the night of Tuesday, August 2!
As
first reported by Neal Rogers, Congratulations
to Michael and Dede Barry, who are celebrating the
birth of their first child,
Liam, born the night of Tuesday, August 2.
He is
healthy and the birth went well, Michael reports.
Dede is doing very well also. It has been
a really good experience having the baby in Spain.
The hospital
is new and nice and the staff and docs are all very kind.
We are going
home today and will stay with Liam, who is now
a Spanish citizen as well, in Spain until the middle
of October as I will be racing the fall
Classics and he can't travel for a few more months. This experience has
been more than
we had ever imagined and these are truly the greatest moments of our
lives!
Adds Mom / Dede / former pro cyclist: He is
a big boy, 8.2 pounds. He is doing super and we
are totally in awe of him. Labor was definitely
the
most intense
effort I have ever experienced.

| 8.16.2004: Dede Rides
Strong in Olympic Road Race |
They might not have any hardware
to show for their effort, but the American Trio can
definitely rode their hearts out Sunday in the Olympic
road race. Dede stayed with the lead pack until the
finish and came across the line in 16th.
The big win
went to Australia's Sara Carrigan who made a great
move to pass Judith Arndt of Germany in the
final straightaway. Kristin Armstrong of Boise, Idaho,
finished eighth, marking only the third top-10 finish
by an American in the race since Connie Carpenter-Phinney
and Rebecca Twigg won gold and silver for the United
States 20 years ago in Los Angeles when the event
made its Olympic debut.
Christine Thorburn of Davenport,
Iowa, was also strong all day. She was with Dede
in the lead pack until
the end of the nine-lap, 74-mile race. Thorburn
finished 15th.
